A total of 1895 sand flies – Phlebotomus, 937 male and 958 female (with percentage 1: 0.98) were collected during the study period, from early may to end of October 2010, by using 400 oil traps and 10 light traps (CDC).

The trapped specimens represented in two genus of Phlebotomus: Phlebotomus (95%), Sergentomyia (5%), representing in 7 species of Phlebotomus: P.

papatasi (61% ), P.

sergenti (32% (, P.

alexandri (0.21%), P.

jacusielli (0.16%), P.

syriacus (1%), P.

tobbi (1%), P.

galillaeus (0.12%), S .

dentata (5%).

The species P.

papatasi, P.

sergenti & S.

dentata were the dominant species in all study area.

One density peak of Phlebotomus was recorded during study period, in august using oil traps and in September using CDC.

The collecting percentage of P.papatasi was 63%, in Hama northern and eastern rural, while it was 37% in western and northwestern rural; and for P.sergenti was 73%, in Hama northern and northeastern rural, while it was 27% in western and north western rural.

The northern and eastern area of Hama were an endemic with cutaneous leishmaniasis, the cases number recorded 85.6% in these area, whereas in western and north western rural, the percentage 14.4% was recorded during 2010.
