Abstract EN

This study focuses on the questions raised by Al-Askia Mohammad and the responses made by Mohammad Al-Maghali, which form a historical source for studying the conditions of the life of West Africa at beginning of the modern times 900 AH/1494 AD.

In general, it offers a picture of reforms attempted to establish an Islamic rule aiming at the restoration of Islam as practiced in its early golden age, when it was free from fraud.

The study also attempts a reappraisal of the responses of Al-Maghali, the jurist, who is considered one of the prominent figures of reform in West Africa in the Ninth and Tenth centuries AH--the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries A D.

In this attempt, the study tries to show a portrait of the life of Songhay Kingdom, at its early time of establishment.

The study is supported by judicial sources related to historical records of the social life of the time.

It also offers a personal history of the jurist Al-Maghali and Al-Askia Mohammad, and the relationship between the two, after Al-Askia Mohammad succeeded in bringing the downfall of Sonni Ali rule.
