Abstract EN

The major theme of this research paper is the important place of Arabic language in Algeria during the period of the French colonialism of it, besides it seems clear that the paper answer also so many questions such: how did the French authority try to minimize the Arabic importance despite the last is the native language of the Algerians? And what priority or how mach resources was devoted to it during the Algerian political reconstruction period? The steadfastness of Arabic, as a strong factor that stands against the colonial policy, was also one major point that we dealt with.

Here again we need to refer that the French themselves recognized that Arabic is a symbol of the Algerian culture that is why it started to put plans and to organize tactics to diminish and reduce that importance.

On the other hand, Arabic was the language of speeches, communications and correspondences from el Emir Khalid movement in 1919 to the emergence of the current autonomous Muslim elected to the movement in 1927.

However the appearance of the Muslims scholars association in 1931 is considered to be a key asset in maintaining Arab support and demarcated in teaching, writing and communication and it was the same thing for Farhat Abas who issued EL Watan newspaper in Arabic.

Furthermore, after the outbreak of the Algerian revolution in 1954, one may notice that it did not abort the demand of Arabic as an official language through so many charters.
