Abstract AR
This research aims at analyzing Yaqubean’s Building novel by Ala’ Al Aswani in terms of technical formation and vision the writer wanted to present to the reader about Cairo downtown area which reflects the image of the Egyptian society in general.
In the novel, the author represented a true reflection of the life that already exists in Suleiman Basha Street in downtown Cairo.
Through the characters of the novel, the author revealed political, economic and social movements in the Egyptian society.
He also pointed out corruption, and with great boldness, the taboos of sex, blackmail, bribery and religion extremism in a direct smooth language.
The study concluded that Al Aswani presented his novel in a high technical manner which brought back to the Arabic novel the stream of realism which was dominated by the stream of modernism and post modernism.
The author also introduced through the narrative various characters that represent different classes of the Egyptian society: the poor in addition to the rich who built their fortune at the expense of the poor and country’s interests.
