Abstract EN

There is a difference between the ancient and the modernists in the use of figures of speech.

The ancient used them as a means to clarify the meaning like metaphor, simile and personification, etc.

while the modernists adopted new concepts to evaluate literary text.

Both of them used them as a means to understand the literary text and to know the ability of the poet to use the language technically, so the research has signified to study the figures of speech in terms of sensory patterns because the poet describes things as his visual, auditory, gustatory, olfactory, tactile senses appeal to him.

On this basis I addressed them in my research because they are the best way to understand the literary text and the most expressive of the reality, imagination and feelings of the writers generally and particularly of the poets.
