Abstract EN

This paper concerns itself with a new field called geolinguistics, which consists of two distinct realms, i.e., language and geography.

Arab scholars were first to introduce this tiled, which was later developed by scholars of other nations in the modem time.

The disused issues to be included in this paper are tackled in three parts, as follows.

Part I provides an overview of geolinguistics.

Part II, on the other hand, puts forth a comprehensive review of the confronting issues equated with geolinguistics and its contemporary applications, such as atlases of dialogues, language phenomena, the distribution of languages throughout the world, language families, bilingualism, and the relationship between languages and dialogues.

Part III, surveys the contributions of Arab linguistics and geographers to the field of geolinguistics.

These endeavors include (a) standard of Arabic (Fusha) and its geographical boarder; (b) the old dialogues of Arab tribes in various countries and the influence of geographic environment on them; (c) accounts of Arab geographers pertaining to phonological, morphological, and semantic changes that occur to language in different geographical areas; (d) linguistics accounts in geography books indicating different names given to various items in countries; and (e) geographers judgment on countries languages and how close or far such languages from standard Arabic.
