Abstract EN

This study aims to investigate the extent to which religious spirituality has prompted Christians to launch the First Crusades Campaign.

It also intends to elucidate the role of The Papacy in arousing F.uropean Christian sentiments and grudges and binding them together aginst Muslims.

This has taken the form of organized Crusades inspired by The Papacy, through which pardons were used to ensure that visiting the holy lands could be realized only via military campaigns.

This act on the part of popes was only a means of igniting European Christian hatred against Muslims, as well as of exploiting the unfavorable circumstances that the Byzantine empire was going through, following its defeat 1071.

the study also sheds light on how the image of the Eastern Christians in Europe during the middle ages aroused the European sentiments and brought about the first crusade.
