Abstract EN

This study aims to investigate the effect of using the solving-problems strategy on the development of the basic stage students' achievement and mental computation skills.

The study population consisted of all students in the basic sixth grade in the First Irbid Directorate of Education.

The sample was selected purposely and distributed randomly into two groups: experimental and control, The number of students in each group was 20.

To achieve the purpose of the study, the researchers designed two tools.

The first was achievement test consisting of multiple-choice items, and the second was a test of the skills of mental arithmetic which consisted of 20 multiplechoice items.

Their validity and reliability were verified.

The study results showed there were statistically significant differences attributable to the effect of the use of problem-solving strategy in developing the achievement and mental computation skills.

In the light of the results of the study, the researchers presented a set of recommendations related to the results of this study.
