Abstract EN

This study deals with the topic of the Sufi knowledge in ibn Tofail’s philosophy: its nature and characteristics.

The typical formula of the great doctrines and issues in his philosophy leads him to consider the Sufi experience as an integral part of the human knowledge which has been experienced by the Arab Islamic civilization.

The study seeks to investigate the question of the “ego” and its importance in ibn Tofail’s philosophy as it is an essential element in the structure of his perceptions that are related to this study.

This concept is of central importance in the process of the Sufi knowledge in ibn Tofail’s philosophy in which the knowledgeable (Murid) seeks to achieve his supreme perfection i.e.

in his quest to surpass the “limited” into the “unlimited” interpreting the paths and methods that are used by the (knowledgeable) to reach his final destination.

In this regard, we find that ibn Tofail uses this concept (i.e.

the ego) in a way that distinguishes his concepts from the figures of philosophy and Sufism alike.

This study also aims to shed light on a number of positive social values which are emphasized by ibn Tofail and should be understood by the Arab society in the modern time particularly that values which are related to the moral values and their importance in society.
