Abstract EN

Considering humanitarian and national factors in the Omani society, this study is concerned with looking into the possibility of providing opportunities for persons with hearing and speech impairment to have their opportunity to higher education through continuing their studies at the university level.

What are the possibilities of higher and university education for the persons with hearing and speech impairment? What are the requirements for, on the one hand, preparing the persons with hearing and speech disabilities for university education and , on the other hand, creating an enabling educational environment in higher education institutions? What are the possible or appropriate university disciplines and specializations for them? That is the major concern of this study.

The importance of this study is that its results may provide a base of ideas and actions that can be invoked to plan for the design of study programs in higher education that would be suitable for the potentials and capabilities of the persons with hearing and speech impairment.

Moreover, the concern with university education for the persons with hearing and speech impairment offers a positive humane image of the society, and an opportunity for empowering this category with better abilities, and look to their future differently.
