Abstract EN

The research aims to measure the skills of evaluating information of social studies teachers in basic education stage in the Sultanate of Oman.

The research consists of 186 male and female geography and history teachers, i.e.

42% of community size, who are randomly chosen.

For the purpose of the study, an MCQ exam of 30 questions is specifically designed to measure three skills of evaluating information: detecting bias in information, distinguishing between facts and opinions, and distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant information; each skill is assigned ten questions testing the application after verifying the psychometric characteristics.

The research results show that the skills of evaluating information of the teachers involved in this study are very weak.

They are below the minimum level set by the researcher.

The findings also show that there is no significant statistical difference in the teachers’ skills when the variables of gender, major and teaching expertise are considered.
