Abstract EN

This study looks at the concept of biopolitics as a political interpretation of the role and function of biology in modern, especially western, societies.

This will be attempted by examining the following questions: what is the epistemic support of biopolitics, what is tis political content? and what are its limits and its value? Approaching these questions is made through the analysis or the notion of tradition in the philosophy of science, especially in the works of Michel Foucault who investigated this notion in his political and scientific works.

Biopolitics expresses the operational or practical aspect of biology.

It as a political object that is cultivated and supported for political and economic objectives.

Simultaneously, the modern state works to abolish life, as is the case with racist and colonial policies, as manifested the totalitarian Nazi and Stalinist systems.

Despite the critique that was directed at bio-politics, especially regarding its normative and explanatory aspects, it remains a new approach in contemporary political analysis.

In comparison with traditional political philosophy that is established on universal concepts, biopolitcs is able to uncover the mechanisms, procedures and functions that support the modern state.
