Abstract EN

The current study aims to understand the reasons behind the attraction towards watching Reality TV, with the main focus on the reasons behind watching the Reality TV show "Star Academy" by identifying the direction towards the programme as well as the type of interaction.

The sample consisted of 399 males and female students from various Kuwaiti schools.

The study led to the following results: There is a positive attitude towards most of the sample in supporting "Star Academy" by the Kuwaiti audience.

- There are statistical age differences within the sample on which the study was conducted on.

Average highlights that support for the programme increase with a rise in age.

- There are statistical differences in the levels or education within the sample on which the study was conducted on.

Average highlights that support for the programme increase with a rise in the level or education.

There are statistical differences in the attitude towards "Star Academy" according to the degree of attention and interaction, the attitude tends to be more positive towards the programme when hours spent watching the programme are limited.

There are statistical differences in the attitude towords "Star Academy" according to the degree of interaction.

The attitude tends to be more positive when watching the programme is limited to the weekly concerts.

The Three main categories which support the programme are the categories of "Cognitive Activity", General Activity" and "Emotional Activity".

The results showed that 53.3% of the sample stated that they watch the programme for "entertainment", 20.3% watch the programme out of "curiosity" and 10.5% watch the programme to be able to discuss and "chat" about its events with their peers
