Abstract EN

This paper evinces the intersection between eroticism and violence in T.

S.

Eliot’s “Sweeney Agonistes”.

In this poem, man-woman relationship is represented as a lapse into animality and degeneration.

This negative portrayal of heterosexuality emanates from the poet’s intense fear and hatred of the feminine.

Eliot associates erotic life with sin and guilt.

Hence, atonement, for him, is to be sought through religion.
