Abstract EN

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and peace and blessings be unto the Master of all creation, the beloved of Allah, Muhammad and unto his family and companions.

Madina has always held a great status in the history of the Islamic nation.

Allah has selected Madina to be the home of migration of the Prophet (pbuh) and the capital of his state.

It is the cradle of faith and in it the blessed soul of the Prophet (pbuh) has rested.

Madina was the first centre of preaching the message of Allah and inviting all peoples to the true faith.

The mosque of Madina was the first school where the Prophet (pbuh) taught the Holy Quran and the noble sunnah.

In it his companions used to make circles of knowledge to study the Quran and the Prophet (pbuh) was their first teacher.

The study of the various branches of Quranic knowledge continued throughout the years transmitted from one generation to the other and thus Madina became the mecca of knowledge where students from throughout the world gather to drink from its pure fountain.

The revelation of the Holy Quran in Madina was in seven dialects to make it easy for recitation.

It is narrated in Bukhari that Ubai ibn Ka’b (RA) said that the Prophet (pbuh) was at the tribe of Bani Ghifar when Gabriel (pbuh) descended and said to him “Allah commands you to read the Quran in one dialect”, whereupon the Prophet (pbuh) remarked “I seek refuge in Allah! This will cause difficulty to my nation”; this dialogue was repeated seven times until Gabriel (pbuh) finally said “Allah commands you to read the Quran in seven dialects, and whichever dialect they use will be correct”.

Thus the Quranic recitations became a comprehensive safe for the Classical Arabic dialects, and Madina was the centre of attention for the learning and teaching of these seven Quranic recitations.

This paper presents a summary of the characteristics of the Madinian Scholarship of Quranic recitations, which took extreme care of the Holy Quran with benefits reaching far and wide
