Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a common disease in the world.

The glycated hemoglobin has an important role in the diagnosis and control of diabetes, and there are several methods used to measure Glycated hemoglobin.

Many Methods are used in Syria to measure glycated hemoglobin, so this study aims to compare the methods used to assay the glycated hemoglobin in terms of sensitivity, specificity, and therefore the study of the confidence of these methods, and find the optimal cutoff values by measuring glycated hemoglobin levels in healthy subjects and diabetic patients using two methods (ion exchange column and immunoturbidimetric).

Glycated hemoglobin and fasting glucose levels were measured in 110 patients with diabetes mellitus and 65 control healthy subjects.

There was a positive correlation between glycated hemoglobin levels measured by ion exchange column method and glycated hemoglobin levels measured by immunoturbidimetric, in the two study groups.

Based on the analysis of the curve ROC, the cutoff value 6.5% when applying the method of ion exchange column method collected among the best sensitivity and specificity, where the sensitivity of 85%, while the specificity was 100%, while the cutoff value when applying immune method 6.3% is collected among the best sensitivity and specificity, where the sensitivity of 75%, while the specificity was 100%.
