Abstract EN

The need for regional organizations to resolve and settle the conflicts in their regions has become an urgent necessity, especially following the end of the cold war.

Because of their closeness to the area of conflicts, and their understanding of their reactions, make them more capable to understand the reasons of such conflicts and the resolution.

In addition to the benefit it gets from solving these conflicts and preventing them from spreading.

One of these organizations is the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which was originally established in 1975 as a sub regional organization, rather than a regional one, essentially to promote the economic integration of the fifteen member states.

(ECOWAS), however, has ,gradually transformed, due to the pressure implied by political events, into an organization which is responsible for finding solutions to the armed disputes and other political crisis within its regional space.

This seminar discusses the mechanisms applied by (ECOWAS) to resolve the conflicts which break out in its region.

It also discusses the institutional structures which it has established for this purpose, and difficulties that confront it in fijlfilling its mandates, and analyses its intervention to resolve the conflict in Liberia.

Finally, it estimates how successfijl (ECOWAS), along with AU and UN, have been in their efforts in regional conflict resolutions.
