Abstract EN

This study highlights two key tafsir scholars, Qurtubi and Abu Hayyan, to show their methodology in interpreting Quran.

This is done by analyzing their tafsir of selected verses and weighing that against their theoretical principles which they laid in the introduction of their respective books.

The researcher concludes that each of them was faithful to his own theoretical principles and methodology.

The researcher also found that each has his own unique method of interpretation as Abu Hayyan focused on linguistics and rhetoric, while Qurtubi focused on issues related to Islamic jurisprudence.
