Abstract EN

Gastrointestinal tract infections result from various wide set of pathogenic organisms including Viruses, bacteria and parasites.

Some changes occur on many of the biochemical parameters and trace elements in patients with enteric parasite.

The serum levels of zinc, iron, alkaline phosphatase and transaminase enzyme of 202 persons living in Orontes river valley (101 infected by enteric parasite and 101 healthy persons) were determinate.

T student and chai square test were determinate and the average levels in the serum in persons of control and patients group were , respectively , as follows: Iron: 74.08,44.27 µg/dl; Zinc: 66.29, 38.73 µg/dl; ALT: 16.34,18.68 U/L; AST: 23.03, 25.68 U/L; ALP: 71.8, 77.07 U/L.

Our study showed true difference between patients and control groups in serum zinc or iron or both of them, which indicate the relationship between the infection by enteric parasite and deficiency of one or both of these necessary trace elements.

Our study did not notice a true difference between patients and control groups in serum alkaline phosphatase and transaminase enzymes, which indicate that no relationship between the infection by enteric parasite and the occurrence of alterations in the levels of these enzymes.
