Abstract EN

This research endeavors to tackle the subject of the interpretative "Un" which considered as one of the semantic letters.

This domain of study has been deal t with by grammarians such as Sibawaihi and his contemporaries.

Some of modern syntactical studies which looked after application of "Un" in the Holy Qur'an and the Prophet's Hadith, were written about it sufficed to meet the needs with one line, others with less than that and very few detailed data.

The researcher planned to bring together similar issues and quoted examples which were scattered in different reference in two chapters: Chapter one was dedicated to the study of the interpretative "Un": its definition, uses in syntactical studies, its conditions, recognition and denial of that in the view- points of the grammarians.

Chapter two tackled the Qur'anic verses.

The researcher collected the information she needs and then studied thoroughly what has been said by the grammarians about this topic.

Finally, the researcher came to the conclusion that "Un" was never agreed upon in any of those Qur'anic verses as an interpretative letter only, but there are always other different view-points.

Thus, the study, one may say, has achieved what it has aimed at?
