Abstract EN

731 Stool samples were examined, they were taken from children of 11 elementary schools distributed in HAMA city, in Syria, between December 2009 and march 2010.

The aim of this research was to determine the species of intestinal parasites and their prevalence.

It was found that 148 stool specimens contained parasites (20.3%) and there were 78 samples containing pathogen parasites for human (52.7%).

The species of pathogen parasites according to their prevalence were: Giardia lamblia (5.33%), Candida sp.

(4.38%), Ascaris lumbricoides (0.27%), Enterobius vermicularis (0.55%) and Chilomastix mesnili (0.14%).

No Entamoeba histolytica was seen.

Whereas non pathogen parasites were: Entamoeba coli (5.1%) and Blastocystis hominis (8.07%).
