Many researchers and specialists of the Saudi affairs neglect the impact of internal political dynamics on the Saudi foreign policy.

The impact of these dynamics could be described as what is called in this research as “the traditional list”.

They have previously restricted Riyadh’s position on foreign policy to a reactive position rather than a proactive one.

Since this traditional list reflects the internal political structure of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia any change in this structure would be reflected on foreign policy.

Such an impact is clear when we look at the Saudi-Iranian competition for regional hegemony.
