أثر تدريس الجغرافيا باستخدام الخرائط الإلكترونية على التحصيل و تنمية بعض مهارات التفكير الجغرافي لدى طلاب الصف الثاني الإعدادي

Abstract EN

The present study was conducted to identify the impact of teaching geography by using electronic maps on the achievement and the development of some geographical thinking skills amongst middle school students (8th grade).

The study sample comprised 72 students from SHEBIN EL-KOM Middle School.

The sample was divided into two groups: an experimental group of 35 students and a control group of 37 students.

The experimental group was taught a unit using electronic maps, whereas the control group was taught the same unit using the traditional method.

An achievement test was administered.

The following components were considered in the test: remembering, understanding, implementation, analysis and evaluation.

Another test relevant to geographical thinking was also administered.

It integrated four basic skills; namely: geographical information analysis, investigation, organization and arrangement and finally conclusion and forecasting skills.

Findings revealed significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group and the control group in the achievement test in each of the above segments and in the test as a whole in favor of the experimental group in the post-test.

The same statistically significant differences were found in the test of geographic thinking skills in each individual skill and in the test as a whole.
