Bladder tumor is the ninth human cancer, it is the fifth in Syria, and the third tumor in Syrian males.

These tumors are treated by endoscopic resection followed by periodic cystoscopy, urinary cytology and other tests like BTA.

This study compares the sensitivity of urinary cytology and BTA stat as an index of new or recurrent bladder tumors.

159 patients were included in this study, 83 of them have superficial bladder tumors.

A urinary cytology and BTA stat test were made to every patient.

Urinary cytology was positive in 12 patients of low grade bladder tumor (26.09%), 30 patients of high grade tumors (81.08%).

BTA stat was positive in 27 patients of low grade bladder tumor (58.7%), 34 patients of high grade tumors (91.89%).

The sensitivity of both tests was high in high grade tumors with 10% favorite to BTA stat.

In low grade tumors, the sensitivity of both tests was low, although it was higher with BTA stat, but no tests can replace the cystoscopy.
