Abstract EN

This research aims to develop some historical concepts and social values among the first grade of primary school students using the historical story.

The researcher analyzes the Social and National Studies course book in order to assess its inclusion of the historical concepts and social values.

The results of the analysis shows that the percentage of historical concepts and social values in the unit of “The life of the Prophet in Makka” is 31.5%, in the unit of “The life of the Prophet in Madina” is 32.5%, and in the unit of “The Rightly Guided Caliphs” is 36%.

These results demonstrates that the historical concepts and social values varied not only from one unit to another, but also from one topic to another within the same unit.

The researcher reformulates the unit “The Rightly Guided Caliphs” using the historical story, and he applies the historical concepts test and social values scale on a random sample of 80 students from Lubaid Ibn Rabi‘a school in Hofuf, who are divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group.

The results indicates the presence of statistically significant differences with the rate of %0.01 in favor of students of the experimental group against the students of the control group in the test of historical concepts.

In addition, there are statistically significant differences with the rate of %0.01 between the students of the experimental group and the students of the control group in the social values scale in favor of the experimental group students.
