An article under the title: “The Americas and Secularity”, Sociology Professor and researcher into modern civilizations Micheline Milot discusses the historical and cultural causes which led to the rise of the context of secularization in North and South American societies.
She argues that this context is different in its social and political applications than its European counterparts over the last five centuries.

«Les Amériques et la laïcité» rédigé par Micheline Milot, professeur de sociologie et chercheur en civilisations modernes, qui évoque les causes historiques et culturelles qui ont conduit à l'apparition d’un contexte spécifique de laïcité dans les sociétés des Amériques du Nord et du Sud.
Les applications sociales et politiques de ce contexte diffèrent de celles de la laïcité adoptées en Europe au cours des cinq derniers siècles.
