Since the opening of its embassy in Baghdad in1958, Czechoslovakia has been investing formally to Iraq's major investments such as )Basrah oil refinery 1, Basra 2 and refinery Salah al-Din and oils in Baiji), until the United Nations imposed the embargo on Iraq in 1990.

It could be said that more than 60% of oil technology in Iraq was a Czechoslovak.

In the seventies and the eighties of the last century the volume of export to Iraq was between $ 90-150 million.

The export includes the tractor and its production lines (in Alexandria) and spare parts, as Czechoslovakia had a monopol on this industry (in all details) in Iraq.

Czechoslovakia also exports textile machinery and machine tools, turbine, compressors, cooling machines and grain mills.

As to export outside, the framework of industries,there was a small amount of glasses, textiles, jewelry, and requirements for schools and offices and others.

Czech Republic returned to Iraqi market after the regime change in 2003,in an attempt to work its previous role in Iraq, and sent its ambassador to Baghdad immediately after the fighting stop.Today the Czech oil engineers are working, since 2006 in Baiji, Doura and Basra to improve the work of Iraqi refineries.

And the volume of trade exchange between the two countries last year set a record of 148 million dollars.
