Abstract EN

This study aims to identify social control patterns among university youth, and the relationship of these patterns to some social variables.

The research uses a quantitative method based on social survey and sampling; and an observation-based qualitative method.

The sample size is 289 students of Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University.

The findings show that the university youth belongs to two patterns of social control: external and internal.

University students born in urban communities belong to the internal control pattern, while those born in rural communities belong to the external control pattern.

Moreover, the study confirms the correlation between place of birth and patterns of social control.

According to the study, students of the college of engineering belong to the internal control pattern whereas the students of the college of social science belong to external control pattern.

The results show also that there is a relationship between the type of college and patterns of social control.

In addition, there are no statistically significant differences between the tendencies of the study population (regarding the first type) when the college variable is concerned, while there are statistically significant differences between the tendencies of the study population (regarding the second type) when the college variable is concerned, in favor of the college of engineering.
