Abstract EN

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of using oral history as an approach to teach recent and contemporary history of Jordan on students’ achievement and in developing their national and historical culture and in creating a safe teaching.

To achieve this aim, the researcher adopted a quasi- experimental approach by developing four tools: an achievement test, developing historical and national culture test, interview questions and safe school environment scale.

The validity and the reliability of the tools were checked and applied on an experimental group of (41) male and female students and on a control group of (46) male and female students from Department of History in Yarmouk University of the academic year 2013/ 2014.

The findings of the study showed that there is an effect of the oral history approach on students› achievements totaled (0.449) in favor of the experimental group.

Moreover, there are significant statistical differences in favor of the experimental group totaled (0.377) .

There is also an effect of the oral history on finding safe teaching environment.
