Abstract EN
This paper discussed the spread of Islam in West Africa, and the challenges that confronted that.
Historically, Islam started to expand in West Africa as a result of the call of the Murabiteen state which was established later .
they sent callers to Islam to many places in the West Africa until they reached Gabon and established a Ribat there .
As a result, Islam spred by the merchants and Islam callers.
What helped Islam to expand further was the tribal life of a prince or sheikh who followed Islam , that encouraged most of tribe members to embrace Islam, as well as the movement of the Nomadic Muslims tribes Southwards in search for pasture, which brought them in contact with other tribes who also embraced Islam .
As result, many large Islamic Kingdoms were established in West Africa, such as Takrur Kingdom ,Ghana and Mali .
in the modern age the Dawaa spread at a large scale on the part of Fulani states such as Osman Bin Fodio states and the movement of Alhaj Ahmado Lobo and Alhaj Omer Tal.
