Abstract EN

Transport by ferries in Rosetta Branch of the River Nile is one of the means of river transport in Egypt.

It includes two parts: vertical transport and horizontal transport.

The horizontal transport is divided into transport by bridges and by ferries.

-Though full of dangers that result in a large number of accidents claiming the lives of many people, transport by ferries plays a significant part in making up for the shortage of bridges in the Rosetta Branch of the River Nile.

This research aims at studying the history and classification of ferries in Rosetta Branch as well as showing the locations of ferries in the three zones of this branch.

It also studies the distances between ferries and the villages served by each ferry.

Moreover, it deals with the most significant geographical factors influencing ferry transport in Rosetta Branch in addition to the directions of ferries and whether they carry people only or vehicles and people.

Finally, the problems facing ferry transport are discussed and suitable solutions are suggested.

The researcher uses a number of methodologies including the historical approach that studies the historical background of ferry transport.

Other methodologies used include the regional approach, the descriptive approach, the location approach that shows difference in locations, statistic approach, as well as the cartographic approach that can be used in drawing maps and figures.

In addition, three questionnaires are employed to make up for the lack of data.

At last, the conclusion sums up the findings of the research.
