Abstract EN

This study tried to explain the concept of rural development and the efforts excreted by different governments in the Sudan in order to improve the living conditions in rural areas.

The problems of underdevelopment in rural areas according to the study is due to inapproviate government polices, plans and programmes directed to rural development.

The change from centralization to decentralization has led to the low performance of existing projects and projects under implementation due to insufficient financial resources.

The objective of the study aimed to emphacise that the prevailing economic and social conditions in rural areas in the Sudan is very serious which should be faced by the political organizations.

This is because the sustainable development depends solely on rural development which represents the backbone of sustainable development.

The important findings of the study revealed that the rural areas in the Sudan are short of basic services.

These areas have witnessed cases of poverty unemployment and displacement became significant in rural community which need to be highly addressed.
