Abstract EN

The objective of this paper is to measure the impact of economic growth on employment in the Egyptian economy in the short-and long-run.

To this end, an Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach to cointegration and the Unrestricted Error Correction Model (UECM) are employed using the data over the period 1982 – 2005.

The results indicate that the economic growth has a weak significant positive short- and long-run effect on employment.

The results also indicate that export promotion, import substitution and foreign direct investment enhance employment opportunities in the long run.
