Abstract EN

This study aims at exploring the connotations of the use of the "stone" motif in Mahmood Darwish's poetry, as this motif constitutes a parcel of the land, and an effective Palestinian weapon to combat the magnificent enemy.

The study explores two major points: First: the connotations of the stone color in Darwish's poetry Second: the symbolic connotations of the stone in Darwish's poetry The study concluded that the "stone" in Darwish's poetry is not the traditional one; rather it is a new one that is full of new connotations and imbued with significant implications.

This becomes so clear in the connotations of the stone color, which reflect all aspects of the Palestinian resistance.

The study also concluded that Darwish employed the "stone" as a poetic symbol.

In particular, it symbolized a bloody weapon in the hands of the Palestinian children, and sign of steadiness and adherence to the roots of the land so much so that it became a fiery word of the poet by which he fights the enemy.

This symbol is also linked to the Torah and Canaanite myths in addition to David and Goliath myth and the Palestinian folk heritage.
