Tlemcen has always been the interest of many people.

The first inhabitants who occupied this city were the Amazigh from Zenata tribe.

Those inhabitants knew the Roman invasions and the conquests of Arab Muslim ( in the seventh century ) , as well as the Turkish one, and then the French colonialism in 1842.

The history of this city gives us an endeavour to study the etymology of its various places’ names whether it is a province or a village.

The names of these places have various origins: either Tamazight or Arabic, or even from different languages.

This article aims at studying some toponyms in the region of Tlemcen.

In effect, topomymy is a science which studies the origin and evolution of places’ labeling and if it has been changed phonetically or semantically; thus, place names are studied through its historical, geographical and linguistic dimensions.
