Abstract EN

This study aims at identifying the role of the academic advisor and its effectiveness on the students achievements in Department of Education in Teeba University.

In order to do the study the researcher used the questionnaire as a tool for measurement.

The questionnaire was given to sixty male students belonging to three academic levels second, third and fourth year students.

The study of the evaluation of the students came to the following conclusions: Concerning the effectiveness of the role of the academic advisor as seen by students, 50% of students evaluated the role as low, whereas 10 % evaluated the role as high and 45% percent of the students evaluated the role as medium.

The sample of students chosen for the survey showed different evaluation of the academic advisor on their scientific achievements as follow: -26% of the sample evaluated the role of the academic advisor as high.

-12% of the sample evaluated the role of the academic advisor as medium -47% of the sample think that the role of the academic advisor has a negative impact on their scientific achievement because of the lack of experience of the academic advisor on the system of credit hours.

The study gives the following recommendations: 1-The great necessity for training and rehabilitating the advisors on the credit hour system of the university 2-The great necessity of looking at the students views on the services given in the university to be able to train the academic advisors on how to help students more efficiently.

3-The great necessity for measuring the effectiveness of the role of the academic advisor on regular basis every semester.

Academic advisors should submit realistic and reliable reports regularly.

4-The great necessity for offering more training courses on the academic system for advisors.
