Medina has attracted travelers from the Maghreb and Andalusia who have described it in positive terms ranging from love and admiration to reverence and sanctification.
This might explain the curious fact that all these travelers’ accounts seem to be emulating each other.
One of these travelogues is the trip made by Abu Al-Baqa’ Abu al- Balawi to perform the Haj, in AD 1336/H3737, which exists in a two-volume book.
The essay will cover the particulars of the trip, the author’s description of Medina, and finally my own conclusions about the trip.
