Abstract EN

Arabs have used some particles of simile whether they are conjuctives, nouns, or verbs.

Notable among these particles are al-kaf, kaanna, mithl, yoshbih, shabaha and mathala.

Linguists and rhetoricians pointed out that these are particles of similarity which are similarly known by ancient and modern linguists.

However, there are other particles of simile, such as kaif, taqool, hal, found in old Arabic speech—some of which are still common in Arabic contemporary dialects.

These are left out of account by ancient and modern Arab linguists.

Therefore, The main aim of this study is to trace these particles in the poetry of some pre-Islamic poets and similarly in contemporary dialects.

This study proved that these are particles of simile used by some poets and in contemporary Arabic dialects.
