This study aims to identify the obstacles facing the Saudi women workforce in the health sector and how different obstacles between the workers in the health sector depend on variables such as age, marital status, educational status and the nature of the work.

The study is based on a field survey conducted in 2014, and of the total of 793 Saudi women working in the health sector in Buraydah, questionnaires were distributed to 653 workers, of whom 624 were used in the final analysis.

The study covered all health sectors in Buraydah, including four hospitals and 35 health centers from the public (government) sector and three hospitals and 47 health centers and clinics from the private sector, including dental clinics.

The study revealed a number of results: - Most notably, the consensus of workers in both sectors (public and private) indicated that social obstacles associated with the "high social pressure on women working in the health sector levels," is the most significant feature facing the workers in their current work environment, together with obstacles preventing future progress and job security.

- Married women have a higher degree of obstacles (social, family, and career) than unmarried women.

- The groups that have the most social and family constraints are the medical staff followed by technicians and assistants then the administrators and technicians from non-medical staff.

The study’s recommendations include: A.

Continuing interest in activating and implementing programs and goals of the five-year development plans which state, in its entirety, to increase the contribution of Saudi women in the labor force.

B.

Improving the work environment in the health sector, commensurate with the social and family situation for Saudi women.

C.

Finally, the importance of conducting similar studies for other cities and regions of the Kingdom and comparing the results with the current study, and identifying and addressing common obstacles.
