Abstract EN

The study included 132 Free-living fish in Lake of 16 Tishreen Dam, collected randomly during the period from 22/11/2011 until 22/10/2012, on average once a month, for detecting the infection of parasitic copepoda, and determine the distribution rate, and their effect on the fish productivity.

Collected fish samples were belonged to the following species: Cyprinus carpio, Varicorhinus damascinus, Garra rufus, Tilapia zilli, and Liza abu.

Tilapia zilli was the most prevalent in lake of 16 Tishreen Dam.

The study showed the presence of three species of parasitic copepoda: Ergasilus sieboldi, Ergasilus briani, belong taxonomically to the genus Ergasilus, recorded for the first time in Syria in this study, and the third isolated species was Lernaea Cyprinacea (called anchor worm), belong to the genus Lernaea SP.

The infection with Ergasilus was only on Tilapia zilli and Varicorhinus damascinus, while Lernaea cyprinacea was on Varicorhinus damascinus.

The infection rate of Varicorhinus damascinus with Ergasilus was 35.71%, and Tilapia zilli 28%, whereby the infection rate with Lernaea cyprinacea on Varicorhinus damascinus was 14.29%
