Abstract EN

An analytical chromatographic method for determination of total benzalkonium chloride in eye drops preparations samples containing gentamicin sulphate, tobramicin and viscous eye drops samples containing fusidic acid has been developed.

The method was carried out using chromatographic column KNAUER CN, 5µm (4.6x250mm) and acetate buffer: acetonitrile (30:70, v/v) respectively as a mobile phase with flow rate 1.3mL/min.

UV detection carried out at 215nm.

The method was linear over the selected concentrations ranged from 0.008 mg/mL to 0.028 mg/mL (R2 =09992) and the detection limit was 0.0025 mg/mL.

The mean percent recovery ranged from 99.56% to 99.77%.

The carried out tests in this work, and the analytical results demonstrated that the method has a good accuracy, precision and validation.

The method determined successfully the total benzalkonium chloride in local and foreign made samples with no need to separate benzalkonium chloride from its matrix
