Abstract EN

This paper explores the potential challenges of confederating Jordan and Palestine.

The most pressing challenges from each side are analyzed from the perspectives of their own countries.

Both sides have, in principle, no essential contradictions hindering confederation following the setting up of an independent Palestinian state.

Any confederation prior to the establishment of the Palestinian state is not within the scope of this study Furthermore, a confederation based solely on political and economic interests may not guarantee future stability.

Confederation must, therefore, be enhanced by an ideological and sociocultural dimension.

It would be especially advantageous for a confederation to follow a freely made decision by the Jordanians and the Palestinians.

Also, confederation must be built up apart from crises, and pressures from the Palestinian-Israeli conflict or from other imposed processes.
