Archaeological Sites in Al-Muthanna Governorate: A Study of Specifying and Documenting them Geographically and Historically" is the title of this field research.

Field studies are very important for specialists of history of ancient times despite the frequent difficulties facing them because the archaeological sites are located in remote areas and there are few persons who know where they are or how to get there.

There is scarce information about them held by the officials of the involved divisions.

The research has included a study of the geography of AlMuthanna governorate in addition to a field visit for the archaeological sites under study such as Al-Warka'a archaeological city , Ajiz hill, Al-Tali site, Ishan Marhaj site, AlUfr hills (Ain Heid) and Al-Humr hills (Al-Azzam hills).

The research includes as well the problems generally facing the archaeological sites at Al-Muthanna governorate and suggestions to solve them as they are challenging the archaeological sites and divisions in most Iraqi governorates; therefore, the solutions we suggest are valid for all the governorates, albeit we suggest them for Al-Muthanna governorate.

There have been field visits for those sites and photos taken for them in addition to visiting the divisions specialized in the fields of archaeology and history of ancient Iraq such as the state corporation for archaeology and heritage in Baghdad and Al-Muthanna archaeological division, meeting their officials to get information, visiting the agricultural division to obtain data and maps of the governorate and resorting to some important books.

This research is considered a start for studying all the archaeological sites at Al-Muthanna governorate in order to launch a developing process in the fields of archaeology and archaeological tourism and supply the archaeological library with the information demanded by the researcher about those sites
