English Abstract
This study was undertaken in order to investigate the perceptions of teachers and principals towards oral and written communication media, and towards communication barriers in public schools in Saudi Arabia.
Also the study was intended to determine if there are differences in the participants? perceptions based on some demographic variables.
Data were collected from (102) principals and (228) teachers, through a five dimensional questionnaire, and analyzed using percentage, mean, t-test, one-way analysis of variance, and scheffee procedure.
The results of the study revealed that the degree of using oral and written communication media was moderate.
It also revealed that there is a moderate impact of personal, organizational, and environmental barriers on communication? s effectiveness, though the grand mean of the organizational barriers dimension was the highest.
The results also showed that there were significant differences in the participants? perceptions towards using oral administrative communication media, and towards organizational and environmental barriers attributed to district.
The results also showed significant differences in their perceptions towards the degree of using oral and written communication media attributed to years at present school, whereas no significant differences were found in the participants? perceptions towards the study dimensions attributed to kind of job (principal or teacher), education stage, academic specialization, qualification, and years of experience.
Based on the findings of the study, some recommendations and suggestions were introduced.
