Abstract EN

Background & Objective: A number of patients who had undergone to craniotomies for tumor resection, re- intubated in ICU as urgent procedure.

This may result in poor prognosis, overloading the staff, and high cost.

The goal is looking for clinical, surgical, and laboratory risk factors helping in early detection of cases which require keep ETT in place and maintaining of ventilation.

Methods & Materials: Cross section study included 120 patients of craniotomies for supra and infra-tentorial tumors.

These patients emerged successfully (GCS > 13) and were out of ASA guidelines for postoperative ventilation.

These patients were divided into 2 groups: G1 includes 52 patients who needed re-intubation, G2 68 patients who did not need.

Some common factors in G1 only determined as risk factors which predispose for re-intubation postoperatively.

Results: According to anatomical site of the tumor: - Supra tentorial: 84 (pituitary 22 - cerebral 62).

- Infra tentorial: 36 (cerebellopontine 24 - cerebellar 12).

From 120, 52 (43.33%) patients needed re-intubation and automated ventilation distributed as following: - Supra tentorial: 36 patients (pituitary 11 - cerebral 25).

- Infra tentorial: 16 (cerebellopontine 13 - cerebellar 3).

Conclusion: Some risk factors - with picking it up - are eligible to be guidelines for keeping E.T.T in place and ventilate patients.
