Abstract EN

Background & Objective: Reflux Esophagitis was diagnosed in 50 % of Acidic Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease cases only.

This study aimed to detect the association between Endoscopic Reflux Esophagitis and acidic Gastroesophageal Reflux disease.

Materials & Methods: this was an observational cross sectional study on 79 children (males and females),were admitted at Damascus university children Hospital between 1.3.2010,1.3.2011 ,aged between (1 mo,12 yrs),and suspected to Have Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD),Upper Endoscopy and 24 Hours Esophageal pH monitoring has done to all patients after discontinuing anti reflux drugs for 5 days at least .

Results: only 37 patients have Esophagitis and 42 have not, and the later considerd as a control group, Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) was confirmed in 18/37 (48.65%) and in 13/42 (30.95%), Odds Ratio was2.11 and Relative Risk was 1.46 and p value was o.o58 >0.05.

Esophagitis was diagnosed in 59.46% under 1 year mainly in 76% in males.

Conclusion: there is no relation between Endoscopic Reflux Esophagitis and the result of 24 Hours esophageal pH monitoring (acidic or non acidic Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease.
