Abstract EN

Background & Objective: Assessment the changes in chin morphology after harvesting bone graft from the symphysis using cephalometric radiographs Materials & methods: 8 patients – having a resorbed alveolar ridge of IV or V class according to Cawood & Howel classification – received autagenous bone grafts harvested from the symphysis.

Using two cephalometric radiagraphs, and depending on 3 points on the midline of the symphysis as a reference – B( the most posterior point, Po(the most anterior point), Me(the most inferior point) – we calculated the difference in the chin soft tissu e thickness: prior the operation and 6 months after it.

Results: Horizontally: at the point B all patients had soft tissue increase of 1.59 mm on average.

At the point Po: 5 patients had increase of 3.46mm on average, and two patients had decreasing of - 3mm on average.

Vertically: 6 patients had increasing of 0.791mm on average, while one patient had decreasing of -1mm.

Conclusion: This technique of bone grafting is reliable and has a little effect on the morphology of the chin.
