Abstract EN
Background & Objective: The selection of recording material is an important factor to be considered in making interocclusal records.
Many materials are available to record interocclusal relations , but they differs in their accuracy during mounting the casts on the articulator.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to compare of four interocclusal recording materials in their effect on the relationship of the casts, and to determine the most accurate material.
Materials & Methods: The study was conducted on a sample of patients consisted of 25 patients with complete upper natural dentition and bilateral distal extension edentulism in the mandible.
Impressions of the upper and lower arches were taken with irreversible hydrocolloid impression material to obtain the working casts, then they were cut the same as in orthodontic casts.
Ten pairs of reference points were drawn on the four lateral surfaces of the bases of each cast.
The vertical distances between each pair of reference points were measured in maximum intercuspation position.
After that, Four interocclusal records were made for each patient using the four tested interocclusal recording materials: Zinc oxideeugenol paste (Superbite), Addition Silicone (Virtual CADbite registration) , Aluwax and Baseplate wax .
The upper and lower casts were mounted according to each interocclusal record ,and the vertical distances between each pair of reference points were measured , and the differences between these values and those made in maximum intercuspation position were calculated.
Data were statistically analyzed by using ANOVA and Bonferroni test (P≤ 0.05).
Results: The results revealed that the addition silicone material showed the values of vertical displacement which were statistically significant less than those of each of Aluwax (P= 0.001) and Baseplate wax (P= 0.003).
Conclusions: Within the limits of this study, Addition Silicone interocclusal recording material (Virtual CADbite registration) was the most accurate material among the four tested materials , it caused the lowest values of the vertical displacement , whereas Waxes were less accurate than other materials in making interocclusal records, Aluwax showed the greatest values of the vertical displacement , Baseplate wax showed the second greatest values of the vertical displacement.
