Abstract EN

Background and objective: Tetralogy of Fallot constitutes 3.5-9% of congenital heart diseases, and is the most common cyanotic one .The purpose of this study is to evaluate the outcome after complete repair of this lesion in ages less than 3 years.

Patients and Method: We present a retrospective study about 46 patients underwent repair of typical Tetralogy of Fallot in Damascus University Cardiovascular Surgical Center Between 2001 and 2008.

Results: The mean age was 28 months (range, 5 to 36 months).

A transannular patch was inserted in 30 patients ( 65.2% ) ,There was three early deaths ( 6.5% ) .

On echocardiography, 4 patients had right ventricular outflow tract more than 40 mm Hg, 12 patients had a mild pulmonary regurgitation and all had good biventricular function, and good functional status.

Conclusion: These data strongly support the concept of first three years complete repair of Tetralogy of Fallot with a good results (acceptable mortality and low morbidity).

Palliative operations put child at risk of reoperation.

By early complete repair we can avoid right ventricle hypertrophy and consequent arrhythmias.

normal child development and growth can be achieved by early complete repair.
