Synthesis of a new series of compounds belonging to the 5H-benzo[b]carbazole-6,11- dione family was accomplished employing a nucleophilic amino addition reaction followed by the Suzuki coupling reaction.

The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and Mass spectral analysis.

The synthesized compounds were proved to be good molecular switches exhibiting chemical and electrochemical fluorescent switching properties by UV–vis, photoluminescence (PL), and cyclic voltagram (CV) studies.
